  1. those special funds are cute. two flavors of public art, a homeless fund and more. what a rich city. i bet they could afford a community center except the voters keep saying NO. but then the people with vision and the ability to dream big [with other peoples money] they found a way around the people and the law, give the rainy day fund to a church to build a private community center. how kewl. now we get storm season and the people of vision get blindsided. how sad. raise taxes. make new taxes. restore the vision.

  2. TheWiz,

Good for you and everyone else who takes time to read and study the Plan. Hopefully if something doesn’t make sense, you’ll ask the Council or Tymesen to explain it.

  3. I printed this puppy out today, high-liter in hand. M-U-S-T F-O-R-C-E S-E-L-F TO R-E-A-D!!

Hey, I like art as much as the next guy (yawn)… but “public art” has always been a pet peeve of mine!

The mayor and council claim police officers and firemen to be a top priority. Then they blow or divert all our money and state there is NO money available for new hires for the number one priority – public safety.

But… there’s always plenty of public funds for art.

Can the art, hire some cops! Let’s see… nifty feathers or a couple of additional firefighters. Hmmmm… you decide!

And the mayor/council wonder why they’ve lost my respect???

  4. You have to admit it is dry reading. In examining the LCDC budget history it would appear that they will see around $6 million in property tax revenue this fiscal year (judging from historical growth). That is not going towards this city budget and it reflects how much city money will be needed to support services within the URD. It is a double hit on our pocket book. Considering how much new property has recently come on board in the URD this number could be far short of reality.

  6. It is time for the City Council to demand that LCDC reorganize the districts to specific projects and release the tax increment to the city. Which council member would start the process by offering a resolution to that effect? I asked Mike Kennedy if he would but he has declined to respond.

  8. Again, when I first got introduced to board members of the LCDC, they talked and acted like this was their own personal and primary business. These people on the board think they OWN the LCDC. Not that they are overseers and in trust of public monies. It is sad they truly think that it is theirs to do with as they please!
