Spending Money

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 11:34 am

Both Spokane County and Kootenai County need larger jail facilities.  Here’s the documentation that Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich and Kootenai County Sheriff Rocky Watson have posted online to help inform their respective jurisdiction’s voters.

  1. Maybe the press should print just the titles like you did. Looks like viable plan put together by professionals in Spokane compared to a third graders book review from KC.

  2. concerned citizen,

I didn’t just print the titles. The purple underlined phrases are hyperlinks to each document. Readers can follow the links and look at the actual documents each agency posted.

  3. Bill,

I understand the link. What I meant was, if one was to look at the titles alone, it would be a good indication as to the professionalism of this and the citys of KC. Not counting the fact of how stupid they really must think the citizen are by not spelling it out for its citizens to get a clear understanding of what is wanted and/or expected like Spokane has done.

  4. concerned citizen,

Good point. I’m sure some people will say that Spokane County is about 3.4 times the population of Kootenai County so we should expect more from Spokane County. No, it doesn’t work that way. The people in Kootenai County expect and are entitled to the same level, quality, and professionalism in our law enforcement agencies and chief executive officers that the people in Spokane County expect and are entitled to (and are getting) from theirs.

  5. I am not happy with the “Plan” that mainly consists of crude drawings with large pricetags attached. The public deserves more. I don’t see how it can possibly go through without more study – but that’s why they call it a “draft”, I guess.

  6. Not being a high-priced consultant, I don’t know what the standard for drawings was. That may be some artsy-craftsy way of doing it. Or it may be the Sheriffs Office and County bigwigs know it’s likely to go down in flames in November, so they spent as little money as they could. My impression was that Watson really doesn’t care, so do a half-fast job and move on. The contrast with Spokane County was striking. I believe that the Spokane County Sheriff has decided not to put its jail issue on the ballot this November because he believes it will not pass and he doesn’t want to put the county through the expense of an unnecessary ballot item.
