Just in Time for the Tourist Season

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 11:53 am
I hear the precast concrete structure the City just had to have installed in City Park in time for the now almost over summer tourist season will be installed next week.  A $50K concrete building and winter should put a huge dent in the crime in the park. Evildoers, beware!

  1. One of the greatest lines of all times: Mama always says, stupid is as stupid does.

IT’S OVER! Aren’t they going to remove it for the winter? At least save the tax payers the money to install this THING until next year.

  2. concerned,

As I understand it, this building will be moveable, not mobile or portable. It will arrive in two pieces. Each piece will need to be set in place with a crane for final assembly on a bed of gravel. I believe the plan is to leave the building in place, not remove and store it for the winter. The installation was included in the purchase price according to the documents I received before the City decided to charge for any further information. From the documents I saw, it appears that each future move would cost $4K-$5K for labor, crane and trailer rental, etc.

The City promised to repay 50% of the cost of this project to its lord and master, the LCDC, by February 2009. Given the City’s fiscal situation, I wonder if that will happen.

  3. This seems like a target for grafitti and vandalism over the winter??

  4. Perhaps the snowboarders will be able to use it. I saw $25,000 in the preliminary budget and figured it was the loan repay. By the way, the budget does not include funding for any additional officers. I gather that the city does not have the funds for this most important service. Perhaps lcdc would like to give the city funding for new officers as they seem to have the extra cash.

  5. ShyAnn,

I’m sure they’re using paint that will allow park employees or geriatric cop shop volunteers to wash the tags off with hoses.

    Susie,

There is no way the City can sugar-coat this waste of $50,000.

  7. And boy did we miss having this wonderful asset for the tourist season. How many murders could have been prevented? How many aggravated assaulters would have travelled on having seen this bastion of law enforcement? It is a good thing it will be here next year so this crime wave can finally come to an end.

  8. Actually, Wallypog, you’d be surprised at the number of crimes in CdA that are not reported. Tourist town. Gotta keep a clean image, you know. Wink-wink. Nudge-nudge.
