Paper Animosity

Filed under: Observations — Dan Gookin @ 2:00 pm

Judy Meyer
NIC Trustee Judy Meyer has announced that she’s going to be running for re-election. The crowd over on the CDA Press blogs are, predictably, ripping her to shreds. It’s bogus.

Reading the Press blog, you would think that Ms. Meyer were in trouble, at risk for her re-election. Serious questions are being asked. Yet not one of those cowards who hide behind psuedonyms has the balls to come forward and run against Ms. Meyer. Therefore, they’re just being jerks who are part of the problem and not part of the solution.

I agree that we need to replace every last NIC Trustee. I would like to see a decent, qualified alternative to Ms. Meyer. The gentlemen who has already filed to run against her, Tyler Smith, is way too young, inexperienced, and under-educated to make him a serious choice. (Plus he’s getting married in October, which means he won’t be campaigning much.)

Without alternatives, all the belly aching, nastiness, and accusations run hollow. If people truly are angry with NIC, then let’s see some decent candidates step up to the plate. Otherwise, it’s safe to assume that the public is satisfied with the direction NIC is taking, happy with the budget cuts to PTE, and overwhelmingly in support of the commercial development that will become the Education Corridor.

It’s your turn. Put up, or shut up.

  2. I appreciate that, kageman, thank you. I made a promise that I’d run for City Council again and I stick to my word. NIC, the community it serves, and especially the students, deserve better trustees. Hopefully some decent candidates appear over the next few days.

  3. Of course, one reason more people don’t jump into the fray for an elected position, especially local office, is good old fashioned intimidation. While I don’t like anonymous postings, I understand how anonymity is vital to financial survival in Coeur d’Alene. At OpenCdA, we get lots of mail from insiders and others who are fearful of coming out in the open with what they know because of threats made against them. Even Mike Patrick, editor of the CDA Press has told me of threats made against him by officials in organizations whose names you would readily recognize. It’s no myth.

  5. Curious, but you cannot find a link to the article in the CDA Press’ Recent Comments section on-line. The link above still works.
