Open Session, Friday

Spring Time Beach

While we wait for Spring, there’s a lot to focus on.  Money, money, money.  And now that we don’t have enough, all kinds of things are coming to light.

Here’s the link to an interesting My Turn column in today’s Press.  There are also several Letters to the Editor today about McEuen and the ball fields.

What’s on YOUR mind today?

  1. Winter has returned like a jilted lover.

They should have canceled school again today. Ramsey road was so slick that cars were not able to get traction go up from Kathleen to Dalton. I trust that the Street Dept. has sanded since this morning, but there was a line of cars backed due to vehicles unable to climb that tiny hill.

  2. Money. Closing the school means no money today. Follow the money!

  3. What do you mean, Justinian?

  4. Snow days are no money days for the District.

  5. Everyone should read Jim Ballew’s column referenced above before voting on the upcoming levy election.

After the Person Field end run, and the district’s statement that they didn’t need the $100,00 siphoned to lcdc, and the requests to lcdc for additional funds for Sorenson and Winton and a remodel of district offices at Sorenson, I question what they actually need versus what they actually need.

  6. Idaho Public Radio interview with Phil Kushlan, executive director of the CCDC, Boise’s Urban Renewal Agency.

    http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/idaho/news.newsmain/article/0/0/1767996/Local.News/CCDC.Opposes.Urban.Renewal.Bills

Kushlan isn’t really the “Tony Berns” of the CCDC. Unlike Berns, Kushlan has a full staff working for him. He might even make less.

In the Interview, Kushlan isn’t being honest regarding one fact: Twin Falls did bring in 700 jobs thanks to Urban Renewal. The Twin Falls URD gave Dell computer a building — free — and helped provide training for the Dell call center. That’s good. What’s bad is that Dell had no skin in the game. So when the times got tough, Dell closed the call center. In the end, Urban Renewal did not bring in 700 jobs and 700 taxpayers as Kushlan states in the interview.

    Spin. Spin. Spin.

  7. Sorry, that should read:”… I question what they actually need versus what they want.”

  8. Actually Susie, I like the first version better. It says to me they don’t really know what they need. 🙂

  9. You know, in a little town no one wants to rock the boat. With that said, in my business I see a lot of local people on a daily basis. I see friends of the “GOB” and it is sad that, IMO, 90+% are against the plan to change McEuen but they do not want to open their mouth and, like I said, “rock the boat”.

MR. NIPP, I CHALLENGE you to ask your friends to be HONEST with you and tell you if what you are doing is ethical and for the GOOD of the community as a WHOLE!

MR. MEYER, I CHALLENGE you to ask your friends to be HONEST with you and tell you if what you are doing is ethical and for the GOOD of the community as a WHOLE!

MAYOR BLOEM I CHALLENGE you to ask your friends to be HONEST with you and tell you if what you are doing is ethical and for the GOOD of the community as a WHOLE!

MR KENNEDY I CHALLENGE you to well, just be honest.

Ya know what? the list goes on and on. The mayor, city council, and most involved on ANY kind of board or committee, whether it be planning, DTA, parking, etc., have done so only for the favors and to position themselves for profit even if it IS at community members expense (taxpayers).

  10. There is a new judicial rule in the works for Vexatious litigants, I thought might be of interest to some of you. Public comment is open until March 14th. Targets mostly pro se litigants

  11. Mary,
I am SO, forgive me, FLIPPING impressed with your article in today’s paper. I have never seen so many comments in one day on anything. I guess the truth hurts. Thank you.
