A New Dimension

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 11:48 am
Commenter Wallypog read Dan’s post of October 22, 2008, titled The Bunker Has Landed and astutely observed the City of Coeur d’Alene Police and Fire Public Safety Building does not appear to measure 14′ x 26′ as the City said it would.  Wallypog thought we ought to measure it.

Now that the yellow tape has come down and the public can approach the building its $50K in tax money paid for, we can confirm that Wallypog was correct.  The front-to-back (depth) dimension shown in the left photo is approximately 10′ outside measurement.  The left-to-right dimension in the right photo is approximately 26′ outside measurement.  Inside dimensions are probably closer to about 9′ x 25′.

Not a cop, a firefighter, or an empty doughnut box in sight at the new Public Safety Building this morning.  No furniture, either.

  1. I might add that the hotdog hole was supposed to be 6′ and it looks closer to 5′.

We need to make up a sign for that oft-closed window. Something like, “Be Right Back, Please Don’t Break The Law Until This Building Is Occupied.”

  2. So is it really “portable”?

  3. It never was portable. It was and is movable with exactly the same resources used to put it in place: a crane, a flatbed trailer and tractor, and a crew … and about $4,000 to rent these resources each time it needs to be moved. And since it is a “public safety building”, it will have to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act wherever it goes.

  4. A concrete slab has been poured around the thing. I assume that’s part of the plan and that it wouldn’t be a problem to lift it out of the concrete to move it. Assume. I said “assume.”

  5. Told you so….. Now the cost per square foot is well over $200. The new Panhandle Health District building cost around $130 per square foot. I do acknowledge economies of scale but this thing has NO plumbing and is quite bereft of any luxury. Looks like the citizens gets the short end again.
