Open Session, Weekend

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 12:14 pm

Happy Father’s Day!  With Car d’Alene downtown today, the Brewfest at the Fairgrounds from 3-7 and unsettled weather keeping folks away from camp grounds, lake cabins and boats, it’s a busy weekend around here.  Any local issues on your mind?

  1. “Hundred state staff get year-end bonus” cda press article. Thousands of dollar bonus’s for gevernment staffers? REALLY?

  2. CC,

I assume you saw that in the print edition, because I can’t find it in the online edition. Care to recap the article?

  3. patrickh,

This is the Press article that covered it.

And here is the link to the IdahoReporter.com article.

  4. We went out to our place on Cave Bay to work yesterday, and we noticed very few boats in the slips. Cool rainy weather, debris in the water, and submerged approach docks have all contributed to a delayed boating season, it seems. We think we’ll be able to launch our boat sometime next week, probably Tuesday or Wednesday. We noticed quite a few places for sale, probably a few more than normal. Maybe we will have only two seasons: sprall and winter.

  5. Hopefully, we can fit some ‘sprummer’ into those two seasons.

  6. Shhhhh, whatever you do, do NOT tell Mike Gridley about the link to the IdahoReporter.com article. If he saw people being named, it might hurt his feelings. They are gubmint employees you know. And their “gender” may be exposed for all to see! (And do NOT make any Weiner jokes, under any circumstances!)

  7. Very funny, Justinian. You sure can see their full name, (gender revealed in most/all cases) their bonus amount and their job title. Even the Graduate Assistants got a bonus? Wow. The legislature better do something about cutting the budgets of these departments because I don’t think $5,000 bonuses are acceptable in this economy.
No Weiner jokes?…ok but there was one woman on the list named “Breedlove”…Anthony might be interested.

  8. Gary won a second place at a car show in Spokane, getting his prized ’28 Chrysler very wet, but not dirty. With all the rain, the streets and byways are fairly clean. Got back into CDA in time to go see CardAlene.

Noticed in Sunday’s paper, John Austin is looking for new admirers at the CDA Press now that his unrequited love didn’t take hold on OpenCda.

  9. Actually, Gary, the Press wants to have a forum for urban renewal, which I think is a good idea. Of course, I’m always available to discuss issues on other forums, as long as the discourse is civil. My contact info is listed after the column if you want to further discuss this, or you can use the comments section. Either way the hope is that readers can better understand how urban renewal works.

By the way, I’ve also been asked to look at the opposition to UR, so all sides can be represented. I hope that will include anybody on this site who quite obviously share differing opinions.

  10. Didn’t see you at the Brewfest after Car d’Alene, Gary. But I did see Dave Walker and he told me he’s the one that came up with the name Car d’Alene years ago (or maybe it’s spelled Car d’Lane, I don’t know). I told him it was brilliant!

  11. What would the impact of positive ID required for voters prior to casting a ballot? EJ Dionne seems to think it is a racist idea – see http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2011/06/20/rigging_the_2012_election_110261.html – how do you feel?
