Open Session, Summer

We might have a few nice weather days ahead…what’s on your mind?

The Federal government can’t seem to get its act together, with the Republicans offering several debt management plans, and Democrat leader Harry Reid pledging to squash the bills coming from the House. Nice mess.

Meanwhile, back in North Idaho, the City of Hayden just proposed a 3% budget increase, adds no new positions and gives no raises to any of their employees. Rathdrum offers a 1% budget increase with no new positions and no pay raises for anyone. Coeur d’Alene has proposed no budget increase but wants a 3% raise for everyone and almost half of them would get up to 8%. The CdA city council will meet this Tues. to decide.  Your thoughts?

  1. That image is a picture of my son, Jonah, climbing the pilings on the river for a dive. It was taken about 7 years ago. The pilings are now gone, all pulled out but a few. Bummer.

  2. Of course they are gone. The elite running the show around here have no respect for the blue collar heritage of the Pacific Northwest nor do they want anything visible in remeberance. Blue collar is supposed to live OUT of the downtown core.

  3. Kabuki. Stylized drama, elaborate make up, content known in advance. Much like watching Congress.

  4. Regarding the debt ceiling increase I think that there is an important fact that I haven’t seen covered anywhere, four congressmen simply refused to vote. We can posture and puff up all day long about who voted yes or no,but to not vote I find to be simply deplorable. You where elected to lead not to be to cowardly to even cast a vote. The four that refused to vote should not even make it through the Democratic primary next time, let alone get re-elected.

  5. Patrickh: What’s especially shocking to me about that is Gabby Giffords made such excellent progress and showed up for the vote. After all she’s been through, and the tremendous courage she demonstrated, it’s shameful that some congressmen chose not to vote. Purely shameful.

  6. I agree with you completely Dan. (BTW I was off on my numbers it was two who didn’t vote, with an additional two seats currently empty. Which is another rant for another time that we have empty seats). The importance of this vote, regardless of how you feel about the bill itself was so important that it is just hugely offensive to me that ANY member of congress would miss, or choose not to vote.

  7. The record is now complete. THERE IS NO PUNISHMENT OR SANCTION FOR VOTING ILLEGALLY. A suspended fine and unsupervised probation is all the illegal voters will get if they decide to game the system during the next election and thereafter. Disgusting.

  8. Very well said Gary. I wonder if the city of Coeur d’Alene will vote to pay their legal costs.
