The mayor and selected city council members are desperately seeking qualified (e.g, politically reliable, won’t ask questions unless cleared in advance, nods on command, will accept public money in return for not suing city) candidates for the November 8, 2011, Coeur d’Alene City Council elections.
I’d like to nominate Donal O’Callaghan assuming, of course, he is able to establish residency in either Coeur d’Alene or Canada before the election. He appears to meet the present job requirements.
This is ghastly news. He settled for a paltry $500,000! What really amazed me was the amount he was paid in that little city. Unfortunately, what happened in Vernon could, and probably does, occur in cities where the taxpayers pay little or no attention to city budgets/expenditures. Perhaps the administration attacked those who raised questions…

It has been rumored that Hassel and Edinger might retire from the city council. If they run for re-election
along with Bruning, I think Hassel would be the most vulnerable. He only won by 212 votes in a three way race. One good candidate could defeat him imo. He’s the guy who as mayor, brought Urban Renewal and LCDC into being and voted for the McEuen Park proposal, which may cost at least 23 mil.while, were in a deep recession/depression. I don’t think anybody, really believes that McEuen Park won’t cost the taxpaying public any more money like the mayor claims. Only the naive people would believe that, because in the end game its going to cost the residents alot of money imo.

Hassell won by 202 in a four way race opposed by Jim Brannon, Chris Patterson and Jerry Weaver. The vote that started the urban renewal agency was: two for and two against. Voting for the creation of Urban Renewal was Kevin Packard and Sue Servick. These council members although seated on the council for a very short time created the “bucket of cash” which would give them the title of spending of more tax dollars than anyone in the history of Coeur d’Alene except for then mayor, Alton J. Hassell who cast the deciding vote to establish the URA. A. J. Hassell continues to spend, spend and spend as a member of the LCDC Board and as a seated city councilman. The no votes were cast by Chris Copstead and Dixie Reid. Absent from the vote were Nancy Sue Wallace and Ron Edinger, who is now attempting to polish his image with his stand on McEuen. I challenge you to ask yourself how many other stands has he taken to represent the taxpayers in this city. My take is that I believe that Ron Edinger will run again, but not Al Hassell.
