Open Session, Labor Day Weekend!

What’s on your mind as you’re grabbing the last bits of summer this weekend?

–Thinking about the upcoming CdA City Council election?
–Or about pay raises for public employees in a tight economy with 12% unemployment locally?
–Or maybe just waiting to slip into a good book and a beach chair or a boat with a fishing pole…
Thoughts? Comments? Ideas?

  1. On your poll it is hard to choose because if it weren’t for the corruption, McEuen Field WOULD most likely be put to a vote and would not be one of the issues. I think they kinda go hand in hand.

  2. You make a good point, CC. If we had honest, ethical public officials, the other issues would be managed in a responsible way and we wouldn’t be having these problems!

  3. It appears we might have an indian summer, as temps will be in the 90’s
    by tuesday of next week.

“pay raises for public employees in a tight economy with 12% unemployment locally”?

There appears to be controversy over pay raises given to 4 employees from the Commissioners dept. What it tells me is: These employees are doing alot of the leg work and it makes sense to compensate and make them happy. However, when you make $64,000
a year as a county commissioner, that should be a full-time job and your only job imo. Overall, I think the KC commissioners are doing a good job.

  4. Well, the move is official at least for me. CDA has lost hundreds of jobs to Liberty Lake, Washington. I was not really excited about the drive for the wage, however, the building and the environment is worth it. Big, huge difference. Sadly, CDA just doesn’t have what it takes to keep employers in town – hey – even the state. Guess, where I will be shopping? No grocery tax. 🙂

  5. I am running for Coeur d’Alene City Council because I have lived here my whole life, and I love this city.

Mceuen Field is a hot topic of recent. My opinion of the proposed park redevelopment is a positive one. Here is why i am behind the park; If you were to plan the perfect layout and use of the downtown area starting from scratch you would not put a boat launch there, nor a parking lot and probably not a fixed-use baseball field.

And what connections does the self described “creative” Adam have with the Pretty People? Anyone know?

  6. An example of his critical thinking skills:

I think anyone running for office saying they favor a public vote is pandering for votes and knows that attorneys have said a public vote can not legally happen.

So how is it Adam, that the City has held advisory votes in the past? Hmmmm?

  7. I thought this statement Adam Graves made was ill-conceived:

It [McEuen Field] is a prime piece of land that is under utilized and a deteriorating blight on the downtown environment.

Under-utilized has become the catchword meaning “It doesn’t directly generate enough money the way it is.” But to state that McEuen Field is a deteriorating blight on the downtown environment? Not exactly a carefully-considered statement. If he really believes McEuen Field is a deteriorating blight on downtown, he should then demand firing Parks Director Doug Eastwood for allowing it to deteriorate to blight.

  8. Sayler announces run for Coeur d’Alene City Council

It will be Sayler’s first attempt at a city seat, and his platform supports many of the major decisions the current council has made.

See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6_1Pw1xm9U for the last word on the subject.

  9. Justinian,

This Mayor and City Council want no new faces on the Council. With Hassell leaving, a new face is inevitable, and the Council would much prefer it to be someone not too inquisitive, not at all independent, and of course, someone who will not blow the whistle on the illegal meetings wherein the decisions are made so they can be ratified at the open City Council meeting. Maybe most important, though, is the Mayor and City Council want someone who is not able to analyze budgets, think critically, or require strict adherence to the Idaho Constitution and Idaho Code. In short, they want another headnodder. Hence, Sayler.
