Open Session, Saturday

Filed under: General — mary @ 9:15 am

What’s on your minds as we roll on toward Thanksgiving?  Christie Wood is now Chair of the NIC Board of Trustees.  She moved up when Rolly Williams stepped away from the Chairmanship.  Any thoughts on this or other issues?

  1. Any word on whether the Trustees voted to set aside 10% of the foregone tax grab for the PTE programs as Rep. Henderson requested? It didn’t sound like they did from the article in today’s Press. Did Mic Armon even bring it up as he promised he would?

  2. Dan,

If no one has an answer, you can listen to the audio tape of the meeting. You will need to do a public record request and deliver it to Bell’s office. NIC has a form, but if your letter includes all the stuff NIC wants (it will), you can just have them staple their blank request to your letter. If you go to copy the tape, be sure to take headphones as the quality of the meeting tape is poor and the school’s playback recorder is a dictation playback unit. I used a dubbing cable to go from NIC’s playback headphone output into the line input on my DVR, then used my headphones to monitor the audio from the headphone jack on my DVR. One of Bell’s subordinates will sit with you while you copy the tape.

  3. Now that Mrs. Wood is Chair of the prestegious NIC board, she ought to consider a more professional mug shot. The High School glam shot is not becoming to the lofty position she now holds.

  4. It seems to me that NIC should have advanced audio equipment. All meetings should be recorded with quality audio-visual equipmment.

  5. Susie,

It doesn’t even have to be advanced. All it would take for audio is a basic mixer with appropriate inputs and outputs, a power amp, seven microphones, and speakers. I imagine NIC already has suitable audio/visual equipment in the various events it sponsors. This all assumes, of course, that the Board of Trustees really cares if the audience can hear and if a good recording of meetings is made. Clearly, it doesn’t or it would have made improvements by now.

  6. As I have said in the past Dr. Bell is a plant now it looks like we have another rose bush and it’ll be weeds for the taxpayers.
We spent three years paying penaltys, intrest, overlimit fees on two citi [lower case intended] accounts along with all the other debt irs included [also lower case intended] now we donate a nother 25 BILLION! what the hell is going on in this Country. My debt was a poor choice of spending for that i’m wholy responsible and with a great deal of sacrifice we are now debt free except for our house payment which was owned by the country wide group of mismanaging idiots. This Government belongs to WE THE PEOPLE. What happened?

  7. I hear ya, Casper. We all have to pay our bills, whether we want to or not, and learn our lessons about overspending and self-control. But when Wall Street screws up or the big auto maker’s are in a tight spot, WE end up paying! I am so sick of the government grabbing our money to solve the problems of private business.
