Kootenai County Comp Plan Challenge

Filed under: General — mary @ 10:51 am

Happy Thanksgiving Saturday to you all!  Now that the holiday turkeys have been cooked, carved and devoured, let’s turn our sights to what some people are calling a very BIG TURKEY…the new draft of the county comprehensive plan.  I’m not saying it has problems, to be honest I have not studied it enough yet.  But I did buy a copy ($13.75) at the county planning dept. and it is also available FREE online, just follow the link at the end of this post.

This document (book) will be important to our future growth but it’s only a draft at this point and has not been approved, so there’s still time for comment.  The key is to walk the fine line between protecting the rights of property owners to used their land as they wish and, on the other side of the line, to protect the neighbors and community from unreasonable negative impacts of the landowners’ actions.  The operative word, of course, being “unreasonable”.

So, here’s my challenge to you:  Review the Comp Plan and bring your comments here.  There are three public hearings set up, according to this morning’s Press, the dates are:  Dec. 1 at 3pm,  Dec. 2 at 6pm and Dec. 3 at 8 AM.  All are at the County Courthouse off of Gov. Way in CdA–(in the building where we renew our driver’s licenses.)

  1. A little off topic as there is not an open line Saturday today, but Christi Wood posts on HBO about the so called Public Safety Hut in service during the downtown festivities. Worth a read. No heat, but they survived with a space heater, it says.
