Open Session, Monday

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 1:43 pm

120px-crocuseabowles Lots of national news today, with the stock market rally and a new public-private partnership plan from the Treasury Dept.  Do you like public-private projects?

Also interesting is this lame explanation of a secret meeting:

Reuters reports that Pres. Obama held talks with former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev,  in Washington last Friday, said Gorbachev’s spokesman. He gave no details of the discussion.  White House spokesman Robert Gibbs was pressed at a news conference about why the meeting between Obama and Gorbachev was not previously disclosed and did not appear on Obama’s official daily schedule.

“The president tends to roam around the larger (White) House and sometimes walks into meetings that weren’t previously on his schedule,” Gibbs said.

Councilman Mike Kennedy

Dear Newsletter Readers,

It’s been a busy week, with the governor, legislators and congressmen in town, and some important citizen rights issues in question.  I see in this morning’s Press that the Idaho Attorney General has decided the identities of citizens bringing questions to their legislators are protected information.  That’s a relief for everyone advocating for responsible government!    (more…)

Bill of Attainder

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 4:00 pm

constitutionIn an article headlined House Passes Tax on Wall Street Bonuses, the Washington Post  reports that by a vote of 328 to 93, the US House of Representatives  approved legislation that “…would impose a 90 percent income tax on $165 million in bonuses distributed to employees of the troubled insurance giant American International Group.”

Have any of the 328 Representatives who voted for this read the United States Constitution? (more…)

LCDC wants YOU!

Filed under: General — mary @ 1:26 pm

180px-unclesamwantyou Don’t forget, boys and girls, that LCDC wants your input, TODAY at 5:30 pm in the Library’s Community Room.  They want you to show up and tell them what they should do next year.  But be very, very careful.  Don’t ask for more transparency.  Don’t suggest any changes.  Don’t criticize anything at all, and especially do NOT mention that Charlie Nipp has conflict of interest problems and that LCDC’s disclosure form is inadequate.  If you do,  you may run the risk of  intimidation.  Maybe a lecture from Deanna  (when you can’t respond)  or  a phone call to your boss from Charlie or perhaps a visit from an angry city councilman.   Tread carefully.

Another Corrupt Public Official Headed to Prison

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 8:17 am

fumoThe New York Times  and the Philadelphia Inquirer  have both reported that former Pennsylvania state Senator Vince Fumo has been convicted by a federal jury on “…all 137 counts of conspiracy, fraud, obstruction of justice, and tax violations … .”

There are lessons for us to learn from Fumo’s conviction. (more…)

Laws? We don’t need no stinkin’ laws!

Filed under: General — mary @ 7:52 pm

Have the agriculture and milk producers in Southern Idaho bought control over the state’s illegal alien issue?  It sure seems like it.  Sen. Mike Jorgenson, see the post below, introduced a new bill to apply more strict enforcement of our laws, but the Committee Chairman, Curt McKenzie, from Nampa decided to kill the bill.

Chairman McKenzie said, “The ones who were going to be regulated by this were pretty staunchly opposed to the bill as it’s drafted.”   Oh…is that the way it works?

Here’s Betsy Russell’s take on the situation—the political manuvering on this is very interesting, and disheartening.  Here’s the link: http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2009/mar/16/anti-alien-bill-introduced-idaho-then-killed

Save Money, Hire Citizens!

Sen. Mike Jorgenson

Sen. Mike Jorgenson

Senator Mike Jorgenson, of Hayden, introduced a new bill in Boise today.  It’s aimed at stopping employers from hiring people who are not US citizens.  Sen. Jorgenson said Idaho prisons now house 487 non-citizens and out of those,  425 are from Mexico. He estimated the cost to our state for housing these inmates at about $10 million a year.

The bill would work by refusing, suspending or revoking business licenses for companies that hire illegal aliens.   Any thoughts, comments, ideas?

Open Session, Weekend

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 8:06 am

imagesMay the face of every good news and the back of every bad news be towards us.

I see in today’s Press that Charlie Nipp is still digging to find anyone and everyone that might have talked to Senator Mike Jorgenson about issues with LCDC.  Can you think of a good Irish saying for Charlie?

Any other thoughts, comments or ideas?

There’s a new LCDC web site now. (thanks for the heads up, Bill)  Here’s the link: http://www.lcdc.org

And here’s what the left margin says:

LCDC is a public entity

LCDC is not a taxing entity, and thus does not levy property taxes

LCDC uses a portion of property taxes collected by taxing entities within certain “district areas to fund projects benefiting the public

LCDC does not raise property taxes; LCDC’s impact are “neutral” to the property tax payer
