Election Results & UPDATE:

Filed under: General — mary @ 9:29 pm

coolclips_busi01651Election observers, often called “poll watchers” have been on the job all afternoon at both the Fernan and Ramsey locations.  They have just called to update OpenCdA on the results of the school board election.

As of  9:15 pm the Zone 3 results are in:

Incumbent Bill Hemenway has won with 233 votes.  Challenger Terri Seymour was very, very close with 191 votes.  (That’s a difference of only 42 votes.)

Zone 1 results are still being counted at this moment…stay tuned.

UPDATE: As of 10:20 pm  Incumbent Edie Brooks has won relection by a mere 7 votes.  Out of the very large total of 642 votes for Zone 1, Edie Brooks had 323 votes and challenger Jim Purtee had 316 votes.

What a close election!  Let’s hope there is a recount and a challenge to make sure every voter was indeed from Zone 1.

Our best regards to all.

Open Session, Tuesday

vt_but Vote Today!  See the post below for details.  There seems to be a campaign sign fiasco between the incumbent chairperson of the school board, Edie Brooks and a gentleman helping with the campaigns of the two challengers.  I think it’s unfortunate that this silly issue is getting attention because it distracts from the important focus on the poor management of the district during the last number of years.  That’s the big concern for me.

Any comments, ideas or questions?

More Public Corruption Investigations

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 12:44 pm

irs-ci-badgeWe regularly put up posts discussing public corruption.    By frequently giving examples of public corruption cases, we hope to educate citizens to be more alert for the sometimes less-than-obvious  signs and symptoms of it in our own communities.   The most effective weapon against public corruption is an informed public who understands that a corrupt public official is nothing less (and quite a bit more) than a pickpocket taking money out of honest peoples’ pockets and purses.   Here are some more examples of public corruption cases being prosecuted. “Breaking Blue” Author to Speak in Coeur d’Alene

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 7:31 am

eganBoth this morning’s Coeur d’Alene Press and the Idaho Humanities Council have announced that New York Times online columnist and author Timothy Egan is scheduled to present the Idaho Humanities Council’s Northern Idaho Distinguished Humanities Lecture on October 8, 2009, at the Coeur d’Alene Resort.

Neither the Press article nor the IHC press release mentioned Egan’s book “Breaking Blue,” which should have as much local interest as his book about the 1910 Idaho fire. (more…)

It was a Lovefest

The CdA P&Z meeting was tonight and they were hearing the zoning prior to annexation request for parts of the DeArmond Mill site next to NIC.  I didn’t see the whole thing, but I watched about 20 min. during their deliberations.  Gotta say, I was embarrassed for them.   (more…)
