Kennedy Admits Brannon Is Right

“Residency” for voting purposes is possibly the most important issue in the election contest lawsuit filed by Jim Brannon.  For months now Team Kennedy has been arguing that persons who reside outside Coeur d’Alene, even outside Kootenai County, even outside Idaho were in fact residents of Coeur d’Alene and therefore entitled to vote in the contested November 3, 2009, City election.

But in an August 23, 2010,  public record court filing, Team Kennedy now admits it was wrong.  Read on.

Open Session: Honor & Integrity

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 8:59 am

Glenn Beck organized a huge rally in Washington DC yesterday.  Approximately 500,000 people came out to hear speakers discuss the importance of restoring honor in our lives and in our country.  I watched it live on the internet and was very impressed with the tone and message of the event.  The main themes were that honor and integrity must be central in our own lives and our relationship with God, and that one person can make a difference in our country.  These ideas speak to our lives and our government on every level.

Did you hear any of the Restoring Honor rally?  What did you think?  How can it apply to our community?

Bell Keeps Ringing

Remember the recent outcry in Bell, California, after the city’s residents learned how the mayor and council were abusing their authority and lining their own pockets with taxpayers’ money?    According to an article in today’s Los Angeles Times, the citizens of Bell now understand that they can retake control of their city government.   Sadly, many of the desirable attributes in Bell, in Los Angeles County, and the State of California are lacking in Coeur d’Alene, in Kootenai County, and the State of Idaho.

How Much Discretion?

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 8:40 am

The Saturday Los Angeles Times has an article based on a Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department lieutenant’s internal memorandum to deputies in Norwalk Station.  In the memo, the LT encourages the deputies “… to consider an individual’s past and career potential before making a felony arrest.”  Here is a link to the entire article.

Question:  How much discretion should law enforcement officers have in deciding whether or not to make a felony arrest?   Do you agree or disagree with Hubert Williams, president of the Police Foundation, who said the decision to arrest should consider the behavior, not the individual?

An Expert’s View

“If I was a drug dealer and I didn’t want to be interfered with, I’d move to a city where I could exploit dysfunctional city governments, corrupt the police or be left alone in a neighborhood where people are not as active in monitoring their communities. That’s where I’d want my dope house.”

Those were the words of Los Angeles County Prosecuting Attorney Steve Cooley, a candidate for election as California’s Attorney General.   This comment and others appeared on August 13, 2010 in The Washington Times article headlined L.A. area is prime ground for gangs.  Cooley’s interview was a warning to all communities to not ignore the conditions that enable criminal gangs to thrive.  Take heed, Coeur d’Alene.

Kennedy Attacks Bill

Filed under: General — mary @ 7:37 am

This morning’s CdA Press has an article about a legal complaint filed by Mike Kennedy’s attorney, alleging that Bill McCrory violated a court-ordered confidentiality agreement by posting information on this web site.

Here’s the post that Bill made on July 17th, entitled “Who Decides When Violations Matter?”

Notice that the legal affidavit was posted here AFTER it was filed in court and became a public document that you or I or anyone could easily request.  Notice also that the affidavit was posted here AFTER the CdA Press ran a whole article about it.

And remember that Bill McCrory is an extremely honest and honorable man.

County Clerk’s Wife Questions OpenCdA

Filed under: General — mary @ 7:54 am

This comment came in last evening, added to a different post, and I thought is was well worth its own presence here.  Cory has offered some thought provoking ideas on the Election Challenge.  Do you agree?:

Please indulge me with a little fantasy.

Imagine Coeur d’Alene has a very powerful, “hooked-up” mayor who is thought to be supported by powerful business interests. Lets call him Mayor Daly. Lets imagine that a grass-roots candidate challenges him and has support of many “little people.” We will call her Jane Doe. Lets imagine that Jane’s supporters work their hearts out, dig deep in their pockets to support her, and by sheer hard work and determination she wins. (more…)
