Sit Down, Shut Up, Don’t Record This!

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 7:48 am

According to this article in the Coeur d’Alene Press, Coeur d’Alene School District 271 is limiting comments at public meetings and prohibiting audio  recording of its supposedly public meetings by anyone except “working members of the media.”

We can safely assume “working members of the media” will not include anyone other than those stenographers who willingly and without question push the propaganda from the Hazel and Edie Show.

When the public began to crack the code of corruption in Idaho’s communities, Idaho Attorney General Wasden and his deputy William von Tagen dutifully responded to the demands of their handlers, the Association of Idaho Cities and the Cowles gang, to limit the tools available to the public to hold public officials accountable.  In 2009 they eviscerated the Idaho Open Meeting Law, all the while claiming they were improving it.   The Idaho legislature dutifully nodded its institutional head in compliance.  We should not expect  a challenge to the school district’s decision by AG Wasden any more than we should expect one from Kootenai County Prosecutor Barry McHugh.   This is Idaho — where laws are merely suggestions and tools of intimidation.

Sit down, shut up, and don’t record this (formerly public) meeting!

Dr. Robert Ketchum

We Need Jobs! We Need Robert and Ron!

Why should we care who sits on the Board of Trustees for North Idaho College?  Because they raise our taxes and decide what kind of education will be offered at our local community college.  Those are both big deals.

Two seats on the Board are up for election this Nov. 2nd.  They will be on your regular ballot for the General Election that day, or your absentee ballots ahead of time.  (more…)

Welcome To Coeur d’Alene

The latest home foreclosure figures are out, and as noted in this Idaho Statesman article, we have not escaped.

Run your mouse cursor over the various counties shown in dark red in this RealtyTrac map of Idaho foreclosures.  You will see that Kootenai County is third highest in the state, behind only Canyon and Ada counties.  Kootenai county shows 984 foreclosures with 411 homes for sale.

Dan English’s Bombshell

Dan English

Remember the famous Press headline “Canadian Voters May Decide Our Election”? In the televised debate last night, on Channel 19, Dan English, our County Clerk running for re-election, mentioned that the Federal UOCAVA overseas voting law was implemented in our local election because of a “mandate” from the Secretary of State.  I thought that was surprising.  He implied there was no law, it was just a directive from the Sec. of State!

So, today, on the Press blog under the article, I asked Dan English  two questions.  Please read our exchange and give your opinion: (more…)

Bill’s Trial Nixed at Last Minute

Filed under: General — mary @ 7:22 pm

I will try to contain myself because Judge Hosack has yet to formalize his comments, but it will not suffice to say only that the trial was re-formatted at the very last second.  The judge’s clerk called Bill’s attorney late Tuesday afternoon, to say the contempt TRIAL, which was scheduled for 4:oo pm, on  this day mind you, would now be a “Status Conference” instead.  Bill, carefully and judiciously, as is his style, called everyone he could think of, to tell them of the change.  “Don’t bother to come”, he said, “the judge will probably just reschedule the trial.”

But that didn’t happen.  I wasn’t there, though, as I had planned to be before the change.  The judge DISMISSED the contempt charges… but that’s NOT the rest of the story.  And this one does not have a happy ending for Bill. (more…)

Open Session, Tuesday

Rep. Phil Hart

Phil Hart is on the front page of the Press, in a surprising article that is not complimentary, yet the Press, again, has not posted that piece online.  Are they shying away from political comments under their articles?

The contempt trial for Bill McCrory is this afternoon at 4pm, courtroom #1 in the old building.

Questions, comments, ideas?

You Do Have a Choice

If you live in Coeur d’Alene and have one of the gray Waste Management garbage carts (shown left), you will soon have one of the blue recycling carts (shown left) dropped in front of your residence.  Both carts are the same size.  The blue cart replaces the much smaller and easier to handle blue recycling bin.   But the City of Coeur d’Alene and Waste Management are misleading residents by omission in their information about the switch to the carts.  You are not being told you do not have to accept this blue cart.  That was first pointed out in this letter to the editor of a local newspaper. Kennedy “Vindicated”?

Filed under: General — mary @ 1:57 pm

Councilman Mike Kennedy

This morning’s CdA Press headline cried out that Mike Kennedy has been vindicated!  The loving article tried to elicit care and concern for the poor city councilman.  And, in the unbalanced piece, every mention of Jim Brannon and the Election Challenge managed to leave an icky feeling.

I went to the CdA Press blog site to post a comment and see what other readers had to say but, lo and behold, they did not put the top headline article on their site; there can be no comments on their blog about the topic.

So let’s talk about it here.  Those of you who have read the piece…what is your opinion?  Fair and balanced?  Slanted?

In a 20-page memorandum decision delivered via fax on Tuesday, Judge Charles Hosack confirmed “…the election result of Mike Kennedy’s election to Seat #2 on the City Council for the City of Coeur d’Alene in the November 3, 2009, Municipal election.”

Here is Judge Hosack’s memorandum decision.

Here is attorney Starr Kelso’s press release on behalf of Jim Brannon.

Open Session, Tuesday Again!

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 10:13 am

While we’re still waiting on the judge’s decision in the Election Challenge case, today’s CdA Press was full of edgy stories:

Sheriff Joe from Arizona spoke at the Resort last night, the ultra-controversial Westboro Baptist Church will be picketing in our area, and several local long-term Republicans came out in an interview on the front page to say the party has been taken over by “wackos”.  My, my!  What are your thoughts?
