Recall CdA — See Today’s Nickel’s Worth Ad!

Check out the full-page Recall CdA advertisement on the back page (page 28) of the Nickel’s Worth for the week of May 25.  It’s on the news stands today!

You might want to get a copy quickly before all of them in Coeur d’Alene mysteriously disappear from the stands.  Even though the first copy is free and taking more than one copy would be theft, OpenCdA has heard a rumor that Idaho Secretary of State Ben Ysursa will notify Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney Barry McHugh that the state’s election laws supersede all other state laws including criminal laws.

Responding to frantic phone calls from his Corrupt d’Alene buddies, Ysursa will reportedly send an “Emergency  Action Notification” fax message to McHugh informing him that under Idaho’s election laws, the phrase “one copy free” doesn’t really mean what it says when it refers to the Nickel’s Worth containing one or more paid advertisements which Ysursa considers to be inimical to the interests of his friends in Corrupt d’Alene.  Always willing to comply without question to any directive from Ysursa, McHugh will reportedly tell local law enforcement agencies to disregard any otherwise larcenous disappearance of copies of this week’s Nickel’s Worth if the bearer of any purloined copies is wearing a “Decline to Sign” button or tee-shirt.

This is, of course, still all unconfirmed rumor … well, all except the ad in the Nickel’s Worth.

Correct Information

Those of us who have been out gathering signatures on the petitions for recall of Coeur d’Alene Mayor Sandi Bloem, Council President Mike Kennedy, Councilman Woody McEvers, and Councilman Deanna Goodlander have become accustomed to people expressing both agreement and disagreement with the recall effort.

Sunday afternoon between noon and 4 p.m. my wife and I were twirling recall signs and gathering signatures just north of the Midtown Shopping Center (Safeway, Joann Fabric) between Birch and Miller on 4th Street.  A man whom I recognized as a high-level employee of the Coeur d’Alene Public Library left the shopping center parking lot, and as he drove past me at a distance of 8-10 feet, he shouted, “You’re responsible for taking away my vote, A__h___e!”  Then he went north on 4th and turned right on Birch. “So You’ll Recall” — Tom Kane

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 7:20 am

Wednesday night OpenCdA attended a meeting of about 50 community members to discuss the recall effort under way in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.   At the close of the meeting, a man with a soft, peaceful voice asked if he could read a poem he had composed.

I wish everyone in Coeur d’Alene could have heard his poem as he presented it.  There was sadness, strength, and resolve in his voice that the words alone on paper can not properly convey.  Still, I asked him for permission to reprint his poem, and he graciously granted it.

Here is “SO YOU’LL RECALL,” written respectfully by Tom Kane, Coeur d’Alene since 1945. (more…)

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho — Trespass and Vandalism

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 12:25 pm

Apparently Stop the Recall (“Decline to Sign”) had too many signs no one wanted, so they decided to deposit 12 of them in front of this recall supporter’s home near downtown Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. (more…)

Several people have contacted us and said when they now try to comment on Mary’s post titled County Press Release – Recall Election Violations, they instead see the message “Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.”

We did not close the “comment” section, so this is apparently a software problem that we will try to fix or at least identify and then explain.

ADDENDUM AT 08:32:  It was operator error — mine!  Our software has a setting that tells it to shut off comments after a set number of days.  I had it set to 14 days.  It’s open again for now, however we may decide to go back to the 14 day setting.  It should be possible for on-topic comments to be completed during that time.

“It Isn’t Logical”

After reading Secretary of State Ysursa’s letter dated May 1 in OpenCdA’s post titled Is He Believable?, commenter “Chouli” responded by saying of Ysursa’s letter, “It isn’t logical.”

“Chouli” is correct — Ysursa’s opinion is illogical.  It is also inconsistent with the way laws are written by citizen legislators.   It is also completely inconsistent with Ysursa’s testimony in a hearing before the House State Affairs Committee in 2004. (more…)

In Defense of Harry Thomas, Jr. …

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 7:22 am

Former District of Columbia City Councilman Harry L. Thomas, Jr. was sentenced to 38 months in the federal clink for one count of theft and filing a false federal tax return.

Somebody in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, needs to stand up and use Coeur d’Alene rationalizations to defend Harry Thomas’s conduct, and by golly, I’m going to do it!   Are you ready?

He did it for the children!  Look at all the good he was doing for them before he finally got caught stealing the money that was supposed to go to help them! (more…)

Is He Believable?

The More-or-Less Press news/views/skews online posting on May 2 titled County drops suit, wants petitions by June 11 indicated that Secretary of State Ben Ysursa’s letter of May 1 to City Clerk Susan Weathers and County Clerk Cliff Hayes had played an important role in the County’s decision to dismiss its petition for declaratory relief.

In his May 1, 2012, letter, Ysursa stated that his determination [now] is that Recall CdA has some unspecified amount of time but clearly fewer than 75 days to gather valid signatures on its recall petitions. (more…)

Does Ysursa’s Opinion Really Matter?

According to this morning’s article in the More-or-Less Press, the CdA Ministry of Disinformation has persuaded Secretary of State Ben Ysursa to help them defeat the effort by a large number of Coeur d’Alene citizens to recall Coeur d’Alene Mayor Sandi Bloem, Council President Mike Kennedy, Councilman Woody McEvers, and Councilman Deanna Goodlander.

The MinDis induced the Secretary of State Ben Ysursa to sign a very official-looking and -sounding letter in which he suggests that he and no other should be considered the supreme and final authority on the interpretation of the state’s election laws. (more…)

The Perfect Slogan

Filed under: Probable Cause — Tags: — Bill @ 7:23 am

“Decline to Sign” is the perfect slogan for those who don’t want you to be able to vote to recall Coeur d’Alene Mayor Sandi Bloem, Council President Mike Kennedy, Councilman Woody McEvers, and Councilman Deanna Goodlander.

“Decline to Sign” is catchy and easy to remember.  It also hints at the underlying philosophy of those named in the recall:  Never trust the voters.

Next time you see or hear “Decline to Sign,” remember that behind it is an organized effort to keep you and your friends and neighbors from voting to either retain or remove those named in the recall petitions.  You will only get to vote for the recall if  there are sufficient qualified signatures on the recall petitions.

Preserve your right to express your preference in the privacy of the voting booth.  If you’re legally eligible to vote in Coeur d’Alene City elections, please sign the recall petitions so you, your friends, and your neighbors will be able to vote.
