Just for Fun

Filed under: General — mary @ 9:55 pm

Can you figure out the names of these North Idaho towns?

1. Sounds like a dirty word with a lisp.

2. Ghost and bigger than a pond.

3. A measure of wood and what people like to stroll down. (more…)

Special Planning Meeting Today

Filed under: General — Dan Gookin @ 9:57 am

This just in from the City’s Web site: The Planning Commission’s View of its Role in the Community. It’s a special meeting of the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission, and it’s taking place at 3:00 today, outside of the regular planned Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. Visit the link above for additional details, including an agenda. I assume that it will be broadcast on Channel 19 “Woody TV” but the current schedule does not list it.

Hiding Information From the Public

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 12:28 pm

Idaho’s legislators will be shocked to learn that in spite of the Idaho Public Records Law, some public officials still try to hide information from the public.  Maybe they learned the finer points of concealment from their cohorts in Washington State.  Here’s an article titled Pieces of Sunshine explaining how they do it just over the border.  The article was written by Tim Connor, formerly of Camas Magazine and now working for the Center for Justice in Spokane.

Open Session, Summer!

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 8:58 am

CdA is in full swing on this first day of summer. Good news: Joy Seward is holding her own as she recovers from her heart attack. Please keep those prayers flowing. I heard a rumor that the State Board of Education vote to hold up the lease agreement between the city and U of I was almost unanimous…only one vote to approve.

Any comments, suggestions, ideas?

Ford Ironman Road Closures and Diversions

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 8:00 am

The City’s website has a good map and text list of road closures and diversions for the Ford Ironman event on Sunday, June 22.  As the people who live on side streets near the routes know, on-street parking is going to be increased.

A Place to Potty

Filed under: General — Dan Gookin @ 2:04 pm

One of the points in Bill McCrory’s excellent exposé of the Cop Shop in the park was that it had no running water, no bathroom. After touring the Ironman Village today, I confirmed that Bill was wrong; there is indeed plenty of potty taking place on the Cop Shop location.

Open Session, Friday

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 10:12 am

Welcome to gorgeous Coeur d’Alene! What a beautiful summer day to lead into our busy Ironman Weekend. We are lucky to live in such a scenic spot and we are lucky to live in a country that protects our rights to speak out and expect our government to work for the people.

Let’s take a moment to review the mission of this web site. We are here to offer a respectful place to carry on rational discussions about our local issues. We expect everyone to keep the conversation out of the gutter of personal attacks. Dan, Bill and I all reserve the right to edit or pull any comments that are out of line, so please keep your sights up and your discussions constructive.

Any comments, suggestions or ideas? Anyone volunteering for Ironman?
