Twisting the Numbers, Breaking the Rules
You know the old saying about how you can get statistics to say just about anything you want? Well, it was a bit like that at the Ed. Corridor meeting last night. Now, don’t get me wrong. It’s About Commercial Development!
Yes, the Education Corridor is not about education. I just came back from tonight’s presentation and I can proudly confirm that the Education Corridor is all about commercial development of the old mill property. Commercial development.

To Record or Not Record?
Mary Souza’s The City’s Pulse Newsletter dated July, 8, 2008, and titled Respect for All raised an issue about recording public meetings. Is it necessary for everyone at a public meeting to be notified that the meeting is being recorded? How do you feel about it? (more…)
Joy Update
Joy Seward, who suffered a heart attack after her testimony before the city council last month, has finally left the hospital. Joy said her doctor indicated the attack was stress induced and not caused by her partially blocked coronary arteries. (more…)

There was a strong turnout of nearly 40 citizens at the Midtown meeting about the proposed LCDC workforce housing project last night. The Press reported “the majority at the meeting were property owners…” Kudos to the residents of Midtown for requesting and organizing the meeting.
I was unable to attend, but have been told that City Councilman Mike Kennedy moderated the meeting. He asked the entire group if anyone had a tape recorder. He then quizzed the newspaper reporter and Dan Gookin and Susie Snedaker by name, asking if they were recording the meeting. All of them replied “No”. (more…)

The Vision Thing
Some apologists of the local spend-spend-spend, us-versus-them, and ignore-the-little-people crowd that populate various elected offices like to say that our leaders have “vision.” I’ll bet they don’t see this disaster coming.
