SIGTARP Report to Congress

 News media are reporting that Neil Barofsky, the Special Inspector General – Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP), has opened 20 criminal investigations and 6 audits related to fraud and abuse of Troubled Asset Relief Program funds.  Another news source is reporting, “… the probes involve possible public corruption; corporate, stock and tax fraud; insider trading; and mortgage fraud.”

SubstationEvent organizers and citizens who attended the April 15 Tax Day Tea Party at Independence Point in Coeur d’Alene had an opportunity to personally see how the City of Coeur d’Alene had wasted about $50,000 of our tax money.   The 10′ x 26′ Coeur d’Alene Police and Fire Public Safety Building, so vacuously foisted on taxpayers by Police Captain Steve Childers and City Finance Director Troy Tymesen in March 2008, sat locked and unoccupied at the very kind of event for which they had avowed it was so desperately needed.

Troutman: “Most Aldermen Are ‘Ho’s'”

troutman-chicago-sizedAnother now-former city official,  Chicago 20th Ward Alderman Arenda Troutman (shown left), was caught up in a federal public corruption sting.    In Chicago, city council members are called aldermen; their districts are called wards.  On Feburary 9, 2009, Troutman was sentenced to 48 months in federal prison for mail fraud and tax fraud. 

Sometimes people ask why so many corruption prosecutions are federal rather than local.   It’s a good question.

Is there anything in this Department of Homeland Security report released April 7, 2009, that causes you concern about the preservation of fundamental rights to peacefully assemble, speak, petition for redress of grievances, and keep and bear arms?
