LCDC gets Schooled

The PR firm that LCDC paid $35,000 public dollars, gave its report at yesterday’s meeting.  The LCDC Board’s reaction to the long list of suggestions for change was summed up in this CdA Press quote: “Wow, said Dave Patzer, this will be a monumental undertaking.”

My favorite quote in the Press article was from Exec.Director Tony Berns, who was quoted as saying, “We’ve heard a lot of the same topics before. We’ve been dealing with that for years. That’s nothing new.”

Nothing new, Tony?  Then why haven’t you changed?  Why haven’t you responded to these issues?  It takes a paid consultant to get your attention?  I wonder if anything will change, even now.  Your thoughts…?

Open Session, Wednesday

Filed under: General — mary @ 1:54 pm

It’s another beautiful day in paradise, people.  Let’s appreciate this fabulous weather while it’s here.  I’ve been out on the new Prairie Trail several times already and it’s terrific.  It’s a great way to exercise away from traffic.

Any comments, questions or ideas?

Twisting the Numbers, Breaking the Rules

Filed under: General — mary @ 10:39 am

You know the old saying about how you can get statistics to say just about anything you want?  Well, it was a bit like that at the Ed. Corridor meeting last night.  Now, don’t get me wrong.  I want to like the Ed Corridor.  I LOVE education.  But the more I look at this concept and see the behavior of it’s leaders, the more nervous I become. River Drive Develpment
Yes, the Education Corridor is not about education. I just came back from tonight’s presentation and I can proudly confirm that the Education Corridor is all about commercial development of the old mill property. Commercial development.

The Vision Thing

Filed under: General — Dan Gookin @ 1:38 pm

Some apologists of the local spend-spend-spend, us-versus-them, and ignore-the-little-people crowd that populate various elected offices like to say that our leaders have “vision.” I’ll bet they don’t see this disaster coming.
