Someone recently commented that Mayor Bloem is on both the Kroc Center Board of Directors and the NIC Foundation Board.  As mayor of the city where millions in public tax dollars were given to the privately owned Kroc without a public vote, and major land use decisions are being made about the Ed. Corridor, does her membership on these two boards seem appropriate?

205px-habitat_for_humanitysvg The new week ahead begins with uplifting news in this morning’s Press.  Habitat for Humanity dedicated two homes this weekend, giving new hope to families in need.  The article said Habitat has now built almost 400 homes in North Idaho.  Now that’s the way to help with “affordable housing”!  Habitat’s director, Jim Brannon, comments here on OpenCdA sometimes, so our congrats go out to him.  Way to go, Jim!

victorystore00_2038_17301862Affordable housing used to be a problem in CdA.  Now, in this morning’s Press, Realtor Kim Cooper reports there are currently 348 single family homes listed in the CdA area for less than $150,000.  That’s a price far below the projected cost of the “affordable” housing condos being discussed for the Mid-Town renovation and subsidized by public tax dollars through LCDC.

vt_but Vote Today!  See the post below for details.  There seems to be a campaign sign fiasco between the incumbent chairperson of the school board, Edie Brooks and a gentleman helping with the campaigns of the two challengers.  I think it’s unfortunate that this silly issue is getting attention because it distracts from the important focus on the poor management of the district during the last number of years.  That’s the big concern for me.

180px-yellow_daffodil_narcissus_closeup_3008px Summer inches closer.  Blackwell Island and Sander’s Beach return to the front page of the news, dredging up old memories of how those projects were (mis)handled.  And the people living on the East Side of CdA Lake have found a new development they can embrace…

180px-david-ortiz-batters-box School activities cuts?  The levy passed after the full-page ad last week which frightened the bee-geebers out of all the parents.  It claimed that, if the levy failed, there would be NO athletics, debate, music or activities programs, among other outrageous claims like no maintenance, no secretaries, etc.  When I saw that heavy-handed scare ad, I was upset.  But the levy passed, so what’s up with the cuts?

Any comments on this or other subjects?

calendar, clock Several options tonight.  I’ll be going to the Mica Grange at 7pm to listen to Jim Keizer and Jim Ballew talk about the upcoming School District 271 supplemental levy.  They were two of the gentlemen from the district’s Finance Panel that researched the cost-effectiveness of most aspects of district spending.

Do you have any ideas, comments or questions?
