Plan, Prepare, Practice

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 12:56 pm

The recent mass shooting in Aurora, Colorado, and the one in Tucson, Arizona, in 2011 understandably draw the public’s attention to law enforcement’s preparation for mass shooting events.

But we, the public, sometimes become so consumed by the police preparation that we forget the fire and emergency medical services have an equally important role to play in mitigating the event and saving lives.

In its July 26, 2012, online post, Fire Chief magazine tells the fire service How to Prepare Your Department for Mass Shootings Like in Aurora, Colo.

OpenCdA Housekeeping

OpenCdA gets as many as 30 new subscribers daily, but most of them are automatically generated by bots promoting some product or service.  Consequently, we regularly go through our list of registered users and delete those phantom registrants which appear to be spammers.

If you have registered to comment on OpenCdA but find yourself unable to login, you may have been unceremoniously deleted by my very subjective judgment or by my bleary-eyed checking the wrong registrant to delete.  Remember, we don’t require anything other than a valid email address to register, and one of the things I don’t want to do is send a spammer our email address to see if he/she/it is a valid registrant.  So, if you have a problem commenting after you have registered, please send Mary or me an email with your valid username and email address. We’ll work with you to get you registered.  Thanks!

In yesterday’s post, Mary mentioned her husband Rick’s 60th birthday party.

While Rick and “Nobody Famous” provided the musical entertainment, the barbecued chicken and burgers were expertly prepared by Ron and Sharon Dayton on Ron’s custom-made Cowboy Bar B Q.

Here are a few photos.  (more…)

Trenton Mayor Tony Mack

[

Trenton, NJ, Mayor Tony Mack is under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

According to a NJ.com article headlined “FBI probe of Trenton Mayor Tony Mack includes searches of houses of his brother, campaign supporter”,the FBI executed a nighttime search warrant on Mack’s home beginning at about 1 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17.   Most search warrants are daytime search warrants (typically “daytime” means between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.), however nighttime search warrants can be specially authorized if the issuing judge deems it necessary for the safety of law enforcement and the people involved or if there is a reasonable belief that evidence sought may be destroyed if the search were limited to daytime. Pegging the Hypocrisy Meter

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 10:10 am

The Coeur d’Alene Press is the propaganda instrument of the Hagadone Corporation, so it is hardly surprising that this Sunday’s editorial titled “Clarify rules for recalls” pegs the hypocrisy meter.   Now the Press wants to see Idaho’s recall election laws examined and reformed.

But where was the Press almost three years ago when Jim Brannon began an action to contest the illegal conduct of the 2009 Coeur d’Alene City election?  Hiding under the beds with some District Court judges, Secretary of State Ben Ysursa, Kootenai County Clerk Dan English and Kootenai County Prosecutor Barry McHugh who did not want anyone understanding  just how FUBAR Idaho’s election administration laws were.  Today, those same laws are SUSFU.  And that’s exactly the way the aforementioned Press and officials like them. On July 12, 2012, I received an email message from Steve Kenyon, Clerk of the Idaho Supreme Court, informing me that a definite date and place for the Idaho Supreme Court to hear oral arguments in the 2009 Coeur d’Alene election contest lawsuit appeal (Brannon v. City of Coeur d’Alene, et al, CV-09-10010) should be set within the next week or two.

Mr. Kenyon expressed his opinion that the Supreme Court will likely hear the arguments in either Coeur d’Alene or Moscow.  According to the Supreme Court’s calendar online, it is scheduled to convene in Coeur d’Alene, Moscow, and Lewiston on September 19, 20, and 21 during its Fall/Winter 2012 term.
