Is the public overlooking the behavior of these, and other, elected officials just because they’re “nice”? Or maybe their irresponsible behavior is accepted because of their longtime CdA family names, or the fact they’ve been around for many decades. What do you think? Here are Gary’s words:
“I’m tired of reading on this blog that Woody is a nice person. Every buffoon I’ve ever encountered is a nice person. His reasoning is non existent, his use of the English language would embarrass his elementary school teachers. His presence on the city council is more importantly, dangerous.” Comment by Gary Ingram— June 21, 2009 @ 9:46 pm
Ironman is done and the barricades should be down now, another successful competition complete. The weather seemed the worst in years. Did you go? Any other comments, ideas, suggestions for the week ahead?
CdA City Councilman Woody McEvers made some *amazing* statements during the deliberations on the zoning change for the Ed.Corridor properties last Tuesday night. NIC and the Foundation were strongly pushing for the blank check of C-17 zoning, which would allow them to do almost anything, at almost any height, even near the river. About 6 citizens spoke against the unrestricted zone, and one of them was the President of the Fort Grounds Homeowners Association, who spoke for a large number of the neighbors: They want the more protective zone that NIC’s campus carries now, which is R-17. Here’s what Woody said, as his reasons for supporting the full C-17: (close paraphrase) Ya know all those people down at NIC and the Foundation are nice folks. They’ve always been good about stuff. I know there’s no plan, but we should just trust ’em. After all, they’re the government, and if you can’t trust the government, who can you trust? Woody went on to say: And if they want to sell off some of the dirt to make a little money, why not? I say, go for it, we trust ya.
My wonderful husband, Rick, made a short 6 minute video of last Friday’s Tea Party 2 event in Post Falls. It gives a good overview of the speakers, music and activities. Please take a few minutes to check it out:
Wanna know how to revive the economy? GET GOVERNMENT OUT OF THE WAY! In the latest “what country are we living in?” episode, Congress is working on a bill that will hamstring Fed-Ex. Why? Because Fed-Ex, as an airway-based business, operates under different rules than UPS, it’s much bigger competitor. UPS has to deal with the Teamster’s union and the proposed legislation will force Fed-Ex to do the same. What a bunch of baloney. Oh, but the congressman from Minnesota, Democrat James L. Oberstar, who is slipping this sneaky 200 word provision into another bill, has been heavily funded by the Teamsters and UPS. With this kind of trickery, it will be a miracle if business is able to survive.
Get your wallets ready. The tax assessments came out a couple days ago and most people saw a decrease in the value of their property. But that doesn’t mean your taxes will go down…Au Contraire, get ready to pay up and pay big! This morning’s Press reports that NIC just raised their budget by the maximum 3% allowed by law and prepare for the city and county to do the same. The additional knife in the wallet will be if the city and/or county say they have to take the dreaded FOREGONE taxes too. (NIC is already taking their Foregone taxes from our checkbooks to buy the overpriced Mill site. No, you didn’t miss a vote on that, they didn’t give us one.)
