Gutting the U.S. Constitution?

Filed under: General — mary @ 7:42 pm

constitution We might feel protective of our state’s rights, but what about the prospect of the U.S. Constitution being quietly bartered away in the midst of the European love train for our new President?  Here’s some info about the Obama administration’s latest nominee, this one is Harold Koh, a Yale University Law professor who will be considered by Congress for the position of State Department legal advisor and, as such, will represent the U.S. in international legal situations.

There are some serious concerns about Mr. Koh’s view of the U.S. Constitution as secondary to International law.  And also about his comment in a speech in 2007 that he could see instances where Shariah Law (Muslim law) could be followed in our country. ( What?!! ) Here are two links:  (more…)

BREAK the NEWS!

Filed under: General — mary @ 8:41 am

lightening-boltOne of our loyal readers,  Inure Dreems,  reports that  the mayor took some drastic action at the city council meeting last night.  Mr. Dreems writes that Mayor Bloome announced  all members of the council will attend a mandatory etiquette training session, to “give ’em some learnin’ about people skills”.  Additionally, she said “sorry” to all the “fine folks” who’ve taken the time to   (more…)

Let the Sunshine In!

Filed under: General — mary @ 8:45 am

riconc75 Way back in 1974, before I lived in Idaho, the people here gathered signatures and brought an initiative to the vote of the citizens.  It was called the “Sunshine Law”, which was designed to open up disclosures in campaign financing and it successfully passed with a big majority.  Now there is a move to add personal financial disclosures to the law.  Here’s what Besty Russel, of the Eye on Boise blog, reports:  (more…)

British Truth

Filed under: General — mary @ 2:19 pm

250px-flag_of_the_united_kingdomsvg Have you seen this incredible speech by a British official, regarding the country’s “ship of state”?  The description he gives could well apply to our new administration also—specifically our government’s  absurd efforts to spend their way out of this mess.  Give it a quick listen, it’s quite well done.

Local Only Teacher’s Union

Filed under: General — mary @ 8:38 am

150px-nea A reader sent an interesting email about some teachers, in various parts of the country, who have been establishing their own local-only unions and rejecting the NEA and their State Associations.  One  group is next door in Eastern Washington.  I thought it was a very interesting movement.  Here’s the info that was sent to me:  (more…)

LCDC wants YOU!

Filed under: General — mary @ 1:26 pm

180px-unclesamwantyou Don’t forget, boys and girls, that LCDC wants your input, TODAY at 5:30 pm in the Library’s Community Room.  They want you to show up and tell them what they should do next year.  But be very, very careful.  Don’t ask for more transparency.  Don’t suggest any changes.  Don’t criticize anything at all, and especially do NOT mention that Charlie Nipp has conflict of interest problems and that LCDC’s disclosure form is inadequate.  If you do,  you may run the risk of  intimidation.  Maybe a lecture from Deanna  (when you can’t respond)  or  a phone call to your boss from Charlie or perhaps a visit from an angry city councilman.   Tread carefully.

Laws? We don’t need no stinkin’ laws!

Filed under: General — mary @ 7:52 pm

Have the agriculture and milk producers in Southern Idaho bought control over the state’s illegal alien issue?  It sure seems like it.  Sen. Mike Jorgenson, see the post below, introduced a new bill to apply more strict enforcement of our laws, but the Committee Chairman, Curt McKenzie, from Nampa decided to kill the bill.

Chairman McKenzie said, “The ones who were going to be regulated by this were pretty staunchly opposed to the bill as it’s drafted.”   Oh…is that the way it works?

Here’s Betsy Russell’s take on the situation—the political manuvering on this is very interesting, and disheartening.  Here’s the link: http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2009/mar/16/anti-alien-bill-introduced-idaho-then-killed
