President John F. Kennedy observed that, “The Chinese use two brush strokes to write the word ‘crisis’. One brush stroke stands for danger; the other for opportunity. Powerful Stuff for SD271

Filed under: General — Dan Gookin @ 8:56 pm

I was at the special School District Trustee meeting tonight. Wow. An excellent, top-flight presentation from some respectable, well-spoken gentlemen regarding how the school district can save money. Serious, sober points made and heard.

December already!  School district meetings, County Comp Plan issues, property taxes, Post Falls’ impact fees…can growth ever pay for itself, really?  Is it fair to ask?

Any other comments, questions, ideas?

The Idaho Statesman is reporting that Idaho Governor Otter just this morning “…ordered state agencies to cut 3 percent from their current budgets and asked them to hold an additional 2 percent in reserve…”   Ouch!

firetruck in winter parade, CdA Gary Ingram wants an Open Session to mention the new Cop Shop in City Park that was apparently used for the first time yesterday. See his comment posted below.  I’d like to say the Parade and Fireworks were great, and the light snow made it even prettier. The photo is of the firetruck, covered in minilights, with two lighted reindeer “pulling” it…cute.   Any other comments or ideas or compliments?

There’s a big hubbub brewing out near Hayden Lake.  Plans for a five story condo building on the Tobler’s Marina property have the neighbors up in a twist.  And they offer some valid concerns. (more…)

Property Taxes!

Filed under: General — Dan Gookin @ 11:37 am

The economy is tanking. Big companies want a bail out. The current OpenCdA poll is about your property tax bill, which should arrive in your mailbox today. Mine went up despite my home’s assessment dropping from last year. Here are two things that factor into the higher property taxes you’re paying:

What’s on your minds as we roll on toward Thanksgiving?  Christie Wood is now Chair of the NIC Board of Trustees.  She moved up when Rolly Williams stepped away from the Chairmanship.  Any thoughts on this or other issues?
