Open Session Summer Weekend

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 3:53 pm

My sweet husband Rick, in the red shirt, turned 60 last week and had a very fun time at his own party!  What have you been up to this summer?

(thanks, Bill, for the great photo!)

Open Session, Monday

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 8:13 am

What happened to the CdA Press?  They’ve been suddenly quiet, keeping dramatic accusations off their front page during the last few days.  I wonder why?

Any other thoughts, questions or comments on this sunny Monday?

Open Session, May Day!

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 8:07 am

Happy May Day to you all!  May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii, and there’s a cute song that goes with it.  We could use some flowers and Spring time weather here too.

What’s on your mind this first day of May, as the Primary elections get closer and the Recall CdA effort gets more, shall we say “interesting”?  The City & the newspaper are up to new antics every day!

Your thoughts on any local events or issues?…

Open Session, Sunday

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 12:10 pm

It’s still March Madness at our house but the fire has gone out of it now that the Zags lost yesterday.  We’ll still be rooting for Creighton today, as it’s our youngest son’s alma mater.  There are many local issues swirling around town right now…what’s on your mind?

Open Session, Wednesday

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 9:47 am

What a busy night last night!  The Idaho Republicans caucused for the first, and possibly last, time in history, and the CdA City Council did it again…they spent $2 Million for a NO-BID agreement for the “Team McEuen” architects to draw up construction contracts.

Mayor Sandi Bloem broke the tie and voted with Council members Mike Kennedy, Deanna Goodlander and Woody McEvers.  They are becoming the “Ram it through” team! (Apparently they have forgotten the message of the last election –see photo)

I heard that, during Council Comments, Dan Gookin expressed great concern that he had to learn about the plans for the Cherry Hill baseball stadium by reading about it in the Press; that this important information was withheld from some of the council members.   What was the Mayor’s response?…silence.  None of the other Ram-it-Through Team said a word either.  Not only are they ignoring the Public, they are also ignoring duly elected members of the council!  Are you concerned about this?

And the Republican Caucuses were not a good idea, in my opinion.  They left out of the process anyone who could not physically attend and stay at least 5 hours.  Primaries are a much better option.  Did you go?  What did you think?   Your thoughts on these or any other topic?

Open Session, Carousel

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 1:00 pm

We went to the Carousel fundraiser at the Eagles last night.  It was lots of fun.  I was surprised, though, by what I heard.  Here’s the scuttlebutt, and you can tell me if it’s true or not, from what you know:

–That the city of CdA does not want the carousel anyplace.  Not at Independence Point, not at McEuen, nowhere.

–That LCDC director Tony Berns told the Museum people they’d have to vacate 30 days after the railroad tracks are out because there are plans for their building and the long storage building near NW Blvd that the museum owns too… the railroad owned the land, and now the city does. I’m not sure how LCDC is bossing this thing around if the city owns the land.

So here’s my question:  Does the storage building land abutt the Ed Corridor? Does LCDC want to make commercial development lots along NW Blvd?  I’ve always heard they want some of the Ed Corridor land to combine with the railroad’s strip along NW Blvd, so the development lots will be big enough for parking and such.  But, at last week’s city council zone change meeting, the NIC rep. said there’d be NO commercial.

What do you think about this or any other topic this weekend?

Open Session, Weekend

Here’s a photo from a warm but blustery day out on at Sunset Beach on Oahu in Hawaii.  It’s near where my husband spent many of his growing up years.  It looks the same as it always has and we loved returning to see it again last month.

We don’t want CdA, specifically McEuen Park, to stay the same without some reasonable upgrades and improvements, but the Mayor and previous City Council’s reluctance to listen to the citizens is upsetting to many folks who have emailed me.  How do you feel?  Has City Hall been responsive to public appeal?

Do you have any other ideas, problems or questions to bring forward?

Open Session, Goodbye 2011

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 4:08 pm

Goodbye 2011!

Another year down!  This one seems to have been full of more drama than usual. Is it just me, or has the local and national news been like an out of control plane ride to you too?

‘Tis the Season…are you ready?  As we approach Christmas, what do you think has been the most hopeful improvement in our community this year?

Any other thoughts are welcome too.

Open Session, Friday

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 10:10 am

Remember our recent winters? Mother Nature is being kind, so far, as many important issues continue to swirl:

1. The CdA City Council & City Attorney obviously don’t understand the new election law.

2. Commissioners Dan Green & Jai Nelson spoke yesterday, at Reagan Republicans, about many things including possible changes in the number of commissioners.

3. The McEuen workshop this morning was to reveal what’s included in Phase I and the budget to go along with it.

What are your thoughts, ideas or questions?
