Are YOU a Stakeholder?

Filed under: General — mary @ 2:31 pm

The whole Stakeholder thing has popped up again.  This time in the report from the LCDC’s hired PR company.  So it again begs the question: Are YOU a Stakeholder?   What does that word mean, anyway?  Anyone want to try a definition?

Here’s what cartoonist Jimmy Barona depicted a while ago.  I think it’s worth another look.  (more…)

It’s Viable!

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 12:15 pm

Remember the precast concrete structure the City just had to have in place in City Park by the big summer events like Car d’Lane, Ironman, 4th of July parade and festival, and Art on the Green?  Normal planning and procurement processes be damned!  The public safety depends on it!  Look closely at this picture taken on July 21.  Don’t see it?  Hmmm.  Well, the LCDC’s Tony Berns says it’s “still viable.”  (more…)

The City’s Pulse Newsletter
By Mary Souza, July 22, 2008

In last week’s column, I reported that the NIC Board of Trustees cut money from their number one strategic goal, Professional Technical Education. A response from the NIC Trustee Vice Chair, claimed my facts were wrong. She later admitted they were accurate but went on to make excuses for the Board’s decision.  (more…)

Any comments, questions or ideas?

Another Joy Update

Filed under: General — mary @ 8:14 pm

Joy Seward, stalwart community volunteer, will finally go home from the hospital this coming weekend after more than 30 days in the hospital since she experienced life threatening heart problems at a CdA City Council meeting.  She has had complications and been re-hospitalized but is improving and will most hopefully be at her daughter’s wedding this weekend.  Please keep sending out those prayers!

Open Session, Sunday

Filed under: Open Session — mary @ 4:04 pm

A great weekend in CdA.  Lots of activities and a busy week coming up.  The final CdA School District community meeting is this Tuesday, July 22nd at 7:00 in the morning at the district’s Midtown Center. They have done such a great job with the first 3 meetings, I hope they continue to get a good turnout for this one.  It’s open format, open questions.  Bring ’em on.  Hazel is there to answer any and all.  What a role model.

Any comments, questions, ideas?

No Money, Honey

Filed under: General — mary @ 7:31 am

This morning’s Press reveals the City’s revenues are down, waaay down.  “No new police officers, no new detectives, firefighters, no new dog park, and no one new to staff the new public library or cut the grass at the new $1 million Landings Park.”  Did the City not anticipate this downturn in the economy when they planned their spending priorities?  City Councilman Mike Kennedy said… (more…)

Police Officer Decertification

Filed under: Probable Cause — Bill @ 1:08 pm

A Florida police officer has been fired for demanding free bar beverages from Starbucks.  Okay.  So he goes somewhere else and gets a job as a police officer, right?  Maybe, but it’s a lot more difficult now. (more…)
